An afternoon departure from Scottsdale to visit Ben Lomond National Park, a spectacular mountain of dolerite columns and scree slopes. Impressive views and a stunning array of alpine vegetation on offer. We travel via the Roses Tier for a forest discovery drive en route to the Tyne Valley for a campfire dinner with the forester kangaroos.
The Campfire Dinner – With the forester kangaroos as your dinner companions, enjoy the ambience of campfire dining with a 3-course dinner consisting of Tasmanian tasting platter of cheeses and smoked meats followed by Bush Pattie Yummo Gumbo or Native Spice Salmon/Salad with dessert to finish. Settle back and relax with a Tassie beverage and watch the sun set and see our field of dreams come alive.
Nocturnal Wildlife Viewing – You will be delighted and enchanted while sitting by the campfire as the wildlife appear at dusk. Forester kangaroos, eastern quolls, Tasmanian pademelons and brush-tail possums feed near the campfire while Bennett’s wallabies and wombats graze close by. At times, platypus, tawny frogmouths, bandicoots, and owls can also be viewed. Return to your accommodation 8.00 – 11.00 pm (seasonal)

Day 2 – Platypus Viewing and Magnificent Ancient Forests
A day of unique geology, forests and landscapes while visiting Mt. Victoria Forest Reserve, St Columba Falls, Pyengana Cheese Factory and Mt. Paris Dam. Departing Beulah Heritage after breakfast we travel to the outskirts of Scottsdale to view the elusive platypus. Then on to the Mt. Victoria Forest Reserve where short walks will take your through three varying landscapes – rain forest, melaleuca forest and button grass plains which along with the single drop Ralph’s Falls provides a superb nature experience. Leaving Mt. Victoria we then journey to the tiered St. Columba Falls at Pyengana with lunch at the Farmgate Café. On the return journey we take a short walk in the Weldborough Pass myrtle forest and visit the old and disused Mt. Paris Dam site where nature is reclaiming the site with nostalgic flare.
Day 2 – Optional Evening Canopy Capers Tour
The hunt is on for the fascinating and elusive platypus before travelling to a nearby cabin in the forest for a campfire dinner and a nocturnal wildlife tour. Relax to the afternoon sounds of the bush chorus from the forest birds; enjoy a campfire dinner of local produce with a Tassie beverage in hand before the sun sets when you take a guided walk into the forest to see the clingers and climbers of the Tassie bush.
The Nocturnal Forest Tour – As the sun goes down, hear the chuckling of kookaburras, and take an enchanted walk under the stars for an understanding and appreciation of wildlife movements in the Tasmanian bush.
